What Does It All Mean?
Access Courses
Access Courses are aimed at mature students who have few or no recognised academic qualifications and want to progress onto further or higher education courses as their next step. On completion of the Access to Higher Education course students can gain entry onto a University course.
Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/HND)
These are some of the UK's most popular H.E vocational qualifications and are designed specifically to provide a skills and career based qualification. Certificates tend to be 2 years part-time and Diplomas tend to be 2 years full-time. These courses provide a route into gaining a full Honours Degree.
Foundation Degrees
Foundation Degrees are a new initiative designed to promote work-based learning and skills. They are flexible and involve different ways of learning including technical work based skills and academic knowledge. These vocational programmes will prepare students for progression onto an Honours Degree programme. Courses include Construction; Business with Transport and Logistics; Fashion & Textiles; Early Years; Care Management and Multi-Media Computing. Honours Degree (BA (Hons) or B Eng (Hons)
We offer a number of first degree programmes, validated by the University of Kent or Canterbury Christ Church University, which enable you to progress on to a relevant Masters Degree or a professional qualification. Alternatively a first degree can provide you with excellent career prospects in a whole range of fields. A 1-year top-up degree enables HNC, HND, or Foundation Degree students to extend their qualification to a full Honours Degree.
Professional Qualifications
SKC offers a range of professional and postgraduate qualifications. These allow students to progress to management positions in their specialist field. These courses are developed by professional bodies such as The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPD) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). These courses are equivalent to LEVEL 4, LEVEL 5, degree level or postgraduate levels.
