Guidance Notes for International Students

Step 1 - Ask for Information & Advice

Look through the information and courses on this website. If you require a printed version of our Centre for International Studies Information Pack or an Application Pack to be sent to you, please request this via our Contact Enquiry Form.

We can help provide you with more information and advice on choosing a suitable course for you. Please feel free to telephone our International Studies Team on [00 44] 1304 244356 if calling from abroad or 01304 244356 if calling from the UK for a personal and friendly response to your queries or email us at international@southkent.ac.uk

If you are not resident in the UK, we recommend that you obtain further impartial and confidential guidance or welfare advice in your home country. If you are currently resident or are planning a visit to the UK you can contact us to make an appointment with a Guidance or Welfare Adviser. Further information about the guidance and support available to you can be found in our 'At Our College' section.

Step 2 - Complete & Post Your Application Form & Fee Assessment Questionnaire

We encourage you to apply for a course as early as possible. Using the SKC application form, please complete the details of the course/s for which you wish to apply. You can apply for more than one course on one application form. You are also required to fill in a Fee Assessment Questionnaire and supply copies of your passport and relevant documentation. This will allow us to assess whether fees are applicable to you. An Application Fee will be charged to overseas students, which will be deducted from your final fee if you enrol on a course.

Fold the Application and Fee Assessment Forms into an envelope and stamp and post to:

Step 3 - Assessing Your Application

After we have received your Application and Fee Assessment Form we will assess your application and documentation. At the same time our Guidance Advisors will ensure that you have chosen the most suitable course for yourself. We will then send you a letter informing you whether any fees are applicable for the course. Your application is then passed on to the relevant Department/subject area of the College to which you are applying.

Step 4 - Invitation to Email or Telephone Interview

Many of our courses require an interview, which can be undertaken by email or telephone if you live overseas. Alternatively, if you reside or are visiting the UK you can come to the College for your interview. This will be an opportunity for you to talk about why you wish to join the course and what interests you (maybe showing samples of any previous work).

You'll receive more information on the course and about the College facilities from the course tutor, as well as a chance to ask us questions. We can make sure you are on the right course.

Step 5 - An Offer and Acceptance

You will then be sent a letter stating whether you have been accepted and given a conditional offer of a place on your chosen course. Offers are on the basis that you supply the documentation requested by us. Details of Studying in the UK can by speaking to one of our advisors on the number at the bottom of this page. You will be asked to send back confirmation of your acceptance of this offer and to make an appointment with us in order to pay the final balance of your fee (if applicable) before you are able to secure your place and enrol on the course.

Step 6 - Enrolling

If a fee applies to you, on payment we will provide you with a receipt as proof of payment, which will enable you to enrol and start your course. Details of when you will need to enrol on the course and confirmation of days/times of your course will then be sent to you nearer to the start date for the course. Courses usually start in the first week of September and some in the first and second week in January, although part-time and other courses can start at other times of the year.
