If English is not your first language, you may benefit from an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course. It will help you improve your English and get more out of your life in the U.K., for instance:

Help your children with homework
Understand the customs and laws
Get a qualification or employment
Talk to doctors, teachers or advisers
Pass the "life in the U.K." test and become a British citizen

ESOL courses help students develop their English skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Home students

ESOL courses are open to home students. Home students are:

EU citizens
People who have lived in the U.K. for at least 3 years

If you are not a home student, you may also be accepted into the course, but you may have to pay fees for overseas students.

Courses

ESOL courses are offered at many different levels from complete beginner to Level 2 Higher Intermediate. Students will be assessed to determine their level before the start of their course. All courses lead to a Cambridge Skills for Life Certificate.

Course duration and dates

ESOL courses last for 10 weeks and start in September, January and April. They are delivered during the day (part-time) or in the evening in Ashford or Folkestone.
